Solar power is a green energy source.
It involves converting one form of energy into another. Sunlight (light energy) is free and can easily be converted in to electrical energy through solar cells.
On sunny days the energy conversion is continuous. If a cloud covers the sun, the conversion slows down and resumes once the cloud has passed by. On in-climate days when the sun is shaded, the conversion may be very slow or stop all together. At night the conversion also halts. Once the sun is visible again, the process begins again.
If the converted solar energy is not used as it is converted, it needs to be stored. Batteries are most typically used for this process.
However, in some areas, the solar energy system can be connected to the electrical grid and any excess electrical energy produced is sold to the utility companies who in turn sell it to other customers. This process is not yet as economically sound as it could be, but in some areas of the world it is becoming a very viable option.
